For my honors project I choose to put together a music video from one of my favorite artists. The reasoning behind this choice is for my love of music and creating visuals to match. A project like such gives me creative freedom to test the limits and bring things to life. Problems I faced during this project was being able to find a location for filming as well as casting people that could work with a flexible schedule. Finding a solution was time consuming but I was able to find a close friend who lived near me who could open up time to be apart of the music video. Though we had very little resources and equipment, we were still able to complete a music video. In relation to digital media, the project required me to work with video software such as iMovie and Adobe After Effects for editing and putting the video together as well as using my video skills when dealing with appropriate angles and shots. What I would do differently for this project is having better filming equipment, improving planning for the shoot, and testing the waters by creating more exciting scenes and props that would level up the music video. From this project I learned that time management is the key to a successful finishing project. As well as having cushion time for any inconvenience during the shoot such as someone dropping from the scene or equipment failing. This project truly kept me on my toes with stress and excitement which makes me crave another opportunity to create a bigger and better project.
For my clients project I got the chance to work with someone coming up in the YouTube community which sparked my interest as I once was apart of the online community. When discussing the outlook for this project with my client I knew it would be exciting as I would have a lot of creative freedom in creating a logo to represent the channel and herself. This year my skills with logo design expanded and i saw this as great opportunity to put my skills to the test. Problems I faced with this project was coming up with an idea on how I could create one simple yet bold logo that could represent a wide range of things relating to "DIY". As her channel was broad rather than to the point like a makeup or cooking channel. With trial and error I came up with an idea to have the logo represent the central theme of "DIY" rather than a logo that's specific like a lotion bottle or perfume spray. In relation to Digital Media I worked in Adobe Illustrator to draw up and polish my logo. While working with Illustrator I learned tips and tricks to up scaling my design to looking more professional. If I could have a redo I would definitely work on my fonts and finding how I could fit it with the design better. From this project I learned that constant communication with your client is key in creating a design that represents their vision as well as saving time on fixing mistakes. Also once drawing up a logo, keep trying to expand and perfect the idea as you go along. This project really was a preview of what working for someone is like and how to handle positive feedback to improve the products vision. I hope to grow and have more opportunities with projects such as this one.
